Health Unit is Relocating! Sharing Space with PEFHT

Hastings and Prince Edward Counties – September 2, 2015 - Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) and the Prince Edward Family Health Team (PEFHT) have signed an agreement for a space sharing arrangement. This will involve the relocation of HPEPH’s Picton office from 74 King Street to the PEFHT site at 35 Bridge Street. The move is expected to occur in mid-November.

The public health services that are now available in Picton will continue to be provided at the new location. The relocation is expected to generate operational efficiencies for HPEPH, which will be reinvested in priority programs. Unfortunately, one HPEPH employee position will be eliminated as a result of this change.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our Picton branch office to co-locate with primary care providers in that community,” said Dr. Richard Schabas, Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward Public Health. “Working closely with these providers will help to ensure that we offer the most appropriate public health services to meet the needs of Prince Edward County residents in the future.”

"The co-location of Public Health with the Prince Edward Family Health Team represents so much more than simply sharing a space,” said Stephanie MacLaren, Executive Director of the Prince Edward Family Health Team. “It is an opportunity to really explore the potential partnerships and synergies between our two organizations. We are both working toward the same goal - a healthy community - and we really could be working more effectively together to this end. At the end of the day, nothing builds a relationship quicker than being in the same space - it39;s all about people, relationships, and familiarity. We are really looking forward to this."
